DVLA's September 2024 auction was again an online event that ran from Wednesday 4th to Tuesday 10th September 2024.

NO 1 SPOT
The top performer in this month’s auction was a plate that took most of us by surprise YAY 4H selling for an impressive £32,193 - with its close representation to “Yahya” which is an Arabic name that means "Yahweh is merciful" or "God is gracious." It is a popular name in the Muslim world too, as it is the name of the prophet John the Baptist in Islam. Yahya is also a common name in the Arab world, and it is often given to boys who are born after a long period of waiting. People with the name Yahya are often described as being kind, compassionate, and intelligent. They are also said to be spiritual and have a deep connection to God, which brings us to the second highest in the auction, THE 60D selling for an almighty £29,240 which may well be a reference to the big man himself or possibly somebody who thinks they have the perfect physique.
Third in the September rankings came another cryptic registration, 123 RS possibly bought by a Porsche GT enthusiast or just maybe their own initials but either way it cost them £28,983.
In at four was K111 NGG selling for an impressive £25,799, although we highly doubt it was King Charles III himself that was the winning bidder on this one.
In 5th place was 147 W commanding a respectable £22,255. Not really anything to go on with this one but will obviously have great significance to the buyer. Nice looking plate though, will look good on any car.
Words
Not seen a DEV suffix plate in quite some time but the best will always be DEV 1L which we purchased back in December 2021. Still DEV 7L managed to achieve an impressive £17,157 in this auction.
Now this one FU11 GAS could have several different meanings, 'Full Gas' as in the world of plumbing, putting your foot to the floor for maximum acceleration (sticking to the speed limit of course) or maybe they have “backfiring” issue, whatever the meaning, it was worth £12,920 to someone.
With the Halloween season creeping upon us WRA 177H (Wraith) selling for £7,155 was a spooky site, but probably more suited on a Rolls-Royce Wraith.
The buyer certainly didn’t avoid bidding on this one BYP 45S selling for £7,014, possibly a heart surgeon or even a Highways Planning Officer, either way they didn’t take a detour on this plate.
A fabulous word in this auction was AR71 STS and at only £5,370 would be the perfect bargain plate for an agent that represents people in the massive industry of Entertainment, or maybe a brewery owner !!!!!
Names
Name number plates are ever popular, as we have seen in almost all the previous auctions and not to disappoint was 70 ONY ("Tony") at £21,921, LUS 1A (Lusia or Luisa) at £19,353, and WNN 1E (Winnie) at £17,157.
The visual representation of Hamish was HAM 12H at just £11,649 which we though were an absolute bargain.
We thought that CEO 80B would be an amusing plate for a Bob (the Builder !!) who is a company CEO or maybe a high-flying CEO, at £7,155 surely this would be a drop in the ocean to them.
Cars
Not to disappoint, car references also played a big part in this auction, notably the car-themed plates were 735 S (£19,866), which would look excellent on a Ferrari 735 S and MC74 REN, which is one of the best McLaren combinations to be found and a steal at only £8,503.
Although the Peugeot brand doesn't specialise in any flashy supercars, what Peugeot owner wouldn't be chuffed with this perfect representation PEU 930T and for a modest £6,641.
BMW 30E £5,280 is surely the perfect plate for anyone with a new BMW X3 30e to personalise.
Others Sold
5 OAD for at a modest £6,782. The ever-popular symmetry theme was also present in this auction where OO74 OOO at £7,787, and the "O"s made a return in the shape of C60 OOO £7,283, P7 OOO £5,255 and N300 OOO £4,613.
We expect this perfect sea fishing plate, SEA 845S ('Sea bass') at £4,587 made some coastal angler very happy or possibly the owner of a fish restaurant.
The stats
September's DVLA online auction comprised 2000 lots, 1972 of which were sold and 28 unsold. Purchasers spent a total of £5,786,893, delivering £5,418,632 to the Treasury.
The next DVLA timed online auction will take place from Wednesday 16th October to Tuesday 22nd October 2024.
