Once payment is received you will then receive the certificate which can either be kept by yourself on retention (ie not placing it onto a vehicle) this can be kept for upto 10 years OR you can go online and transfer the plate to your vehicle. You will then be able to display the plate immediately and DVLA will re-send you a V5 for your vehicle with the change of registration plate.
