HOW TO REPORT A MISSING NUMBER PLATE
If your plate has been stolen, you must report it to the police and the DVLA immediately. This should prevent you from getting fined for any offences that may occur, as people often steal them and attach them to their own vehicle to get away with certain crimes, e.g. not paying for petrol or dangerous driving and speeding. The blame is shifted onto the individual who was the victim of the theft instead, therefore it is imperative to report it.
HOW TO REPLACE A LOST LICENCE PLATE
If it has been lost whilst driving, don’t just ignore it as driving anywhere without a plate is an illegal offence that carries a fine of up to £1000 and possible points on your licence. You will need to provide proof of ownership (i.e. logbook) and photo id (driving licence or passport) in order to get replacements from a verified DVLA Company like us.
The replacement process is normally straightforward. If you get a screw-in replacement, the main downside is that you won’t be able to use the old plate as a reference for drilling the holes in the new one. Adhesive parts are also available.
WHAT DO I DO IF ONE OF MY HAS FALLEN OFF?
It may only be one plate that has fallen off, but it is still illegal to drive, and you will need to get a replacement. It still may be worth reporting to the police if you aren’t sure where you lost it or how. Before you install a new one, make sure to check the car number plate holder for damage as this may also need to be replaced.
