TOP SPOT

Probably the owner of a Porsche 911 – 911 FUN at £54,021 was the 1st of many 911 plates to feature in this auction, albeit this being the best in our opinion. Others featured such as 911 MSC at £19,995, 911 SWB at £15,501 and 911 STR at £14,730.

In 2nd place was 375 L, which sold for £33,477. Yet again the O’s & 0’s featured 3 times in the top 5 – 3rd  place was 89 OO, a nice, short, eye-catching plate at £28,328, 4th was OO07 OOO (£27,057), which are great examples of these popular formats, and the 5th place (only just) was 2000 O, which achieved £27,044.

WORDS

Amongst this month's word registrations were OLD 80Y ('Old boy') at £21,279, not quite sure if this buyer is going to put it on a very old vehicle or maybe it’s just a funny dig at the age of the driver.  BAN 91N ('Bangin'') at £19,353 and T2 UCK ('Truck') at £14,204.

Maybe this buyer is a cybersecurity specialist or a hacker, or they just want to promote there notable or heroic accomplishments, EXP 101T ('Exploit') which sold for £9,081. While OFF 204D ('Off road') at £9,029 would be perfect for a mud-loving 4x4 enthusiast that loves to do just that.

We know the purchaser of this plate 820 KE ('Broke'), definitely wasn't talking about their own financial status as it sold for £15,488,

NAMES

A few name representations appeared in this auction including JAG 81R ('Jagbir') at £23,718, EK51 NGH ('EK Singh') at £16,605, KAC 1E ('Kacie') at £11,970 and LOU 71S ('Louis') at £9,749.

We thought P41 ULA ('Paula') was a great buy at just £7,797, as more and more buyers are starting to appreciate that slightly inaccurate spelling can be as effective as perfect spellings but with a much lower price tag.

CARS

We have already mentioned the 911 plates but other makes and models were seen in this auction too, 16 BUG (£25,773) perfect for a VW Beetle but, at that price its more likely to appear on a Bugatti. AMZ 5 (£14,345) would be a fine private plate for an Aston Martin Zagato.

THE STATS

July's DVLA online auction comprised 2000 lots, 1985 of which were sold and 15 unsold. Purchasers spent a total of £6,027,669, delivering £5,643,724 to the Treasury, again slightly less than June’s Auction.

The next DVLA timed online auction will take place from Wednesday 4th September to Tuesday 10th September 2024.
