BEST SELLER
In at number one was the quality plate H1 NDU (£143, 901) a clear representation of a word as one could hope to see. A truly excellent plate and the price, not as high as some predicting it to go, but still very decent.
1 DEO is interesting. Normally, number 1 registrations with the letters first tend to achieve the highest prices. Not only is this a digit-first example but the DEO combination is not really one of the more common initial sets, although that said, DEO is latin for God. Also standing for The Department of Extranormal Operations (DEO) a government agency in the DC Universe appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. It was co-created by Dan Curtis Johnson and J. H. Williams III and first appeared in Batman #550 (1998). And in the world of 1Tik Tok’ it is used as an abbreviation for “Drop Em Off” !!!
Both these numbers, although very different still achieving over £100,000 shows the strength of the market. It also provides an example of why private plates are such an interesting investment. If one can identify potential buyers for plates, especially where competition may exist, then the sky really is the limit.
KEEPING UP THE TREND
An auction just doesn't seem complete without an 'O' registration near the top of the rankings, so the appearance of 67 O (£93,696) in third place didn’t disappoint. Beating the prices paid for the O trend sold earlier in the year, such as 82 O (£89,960 in June), 197 O (£54,021 in March/April), and 46 O (£75,194 in February)
Fourth place belonged to 1 TLL, (£48,885) and fifth place was taken by MR15 LAM. (£39,897) Another great example of a name representation, Mr Islam.
OMG!
Bearing in mind DVLA's sensitivity regarding number plates that may cause offence, we were amused to observe the unhindered sale of OMY 60D (£18,069). Perhaps blasphemous but surely pretty harmless compared to our DEV 1L plate from DVLA 2021 Decembers' auction.
Another plate with a possible religious connection 6 ODS (£25,773) of course may have been chosen for the initials but, visually, it is a great representation of the word "gods". Unlike OMY 60D, this one was a pretty safe bet to get through DVLA's sensitivity filtering.
Finally, another of those apparently meaningless numbers that have become a regular feature of the auctions was AAA 3A (£28 341). The only thing we see looking at this plate is batteries !!! So far as we can see, like several other numbers in recent auctions its appeal lies solely in its visual impact.

2485 numbers were sold in the July auction, 15 numbers were unsold and buyers spent almost £8 million in total.
